Project Summary

Acropolium designed and implemented the software and hardware architecture for SWIFT Weather, a hazards alerting company, building an efficient alerting system using Node.js, Redis, PostgreSQL, and Bootstrap hosted on Amazon EC2. The vendor recommended technologies, designed databases and hardware architecture, implemented UI and graphic designs, and built the product from concept through multiple follow-on projects. Work was delivered on time and on budget; Acropolium earned four additional projects and remained SWIFT Weather’s trusted partner for nearly three years.

Key Challenges

  • Improve the signal-to-noise ratio for severe weather and crisis alerting
  • Reduce over-alerting and alert fatigue to improve response during actual emergencies
  • Create an efficient alerting system capable of contacting users across platforms (email, cell phone, web applet, custom API)
  • Ensure accountability and audit trails and solicit acknowledgement that alerts were received
  • Move the product from concept stage to a working architecture and build

Project Deliverables

  • Software and hardware architecture
  • Backend built with Node.js
  • Redis database
  • PostgreSQL database
  • Web UI using Bootstrap
  • Deployment on Amazon EC2
  • Layout and graphic designs implemented

Project Solution

Acropolium helped create the software and hardware architecture from concept, recommended technologies, and performed the build. They designed databases and platforms and implemented layout and graphic designs provided as concept drawings. The implementation used Node.js with Redis and PostgreSQL, modern web UI technologies including Bootstrap, and was hosted on Amazon EC2; project management and ticketing used Codebase.

Project Outcome

  • Deliverables consistently exceeded the client's expectations
  • The vendor delivered work on time and within budget
  • The client awarded Acropolium four additional projects building on the original framework
  • Acropolium remained the client's trusted partner for nearly three years
