Project Summary

Vention (formerly iTechArt Group) developed and improved a web application for PhoneWagon, a call-tracking startup. Starting from an MVP, the vendor optimized the platform, fixed technical issues, implemented new features, and assisted with a backend technology transition. Despite the vendor being overseas, they provided a locally based project manager for effective communication. The platform was presented to investors, helping the client raise over $2M; revenue continues to grow and customers are satisfied.

Key Challenges

  • Needed an MVP to present to investors
  • Required cost-effective resources to build out the product
  • Difficulty sourcing experienced Clojure developers

Project Deliverables

  • Web application
  • Migration of backend to Clojure
  • Optimization and technical issue fixes
  • New feature implementations
  • Twilio telephony integration work

Project Solution

It was a web application. After we developed an MVP, they helped us optimize what we already had in place. They helped us create a better version, fix some technical issues we had, move to a newer tech stack, and include new features. We initially built everything off of Twilio, so they worked closely with us on that. Our MVP was written in .NET on the backend, and they helped us transition to a Clojure backend. We worked with a project manager that is local. The team fluctuated between 1–2 members during the duration of our project. They recruited developers with the needed skills (including Java/Clojure expertise) and provided ongoing development support. The engagement began in May 2018 and is ongoing.

Project Outcome

  • Raised over $2 million in investment
  • Revenue continues to grow and features requested by customers were delivered
  • Consistent project success and cost savings compared to alternatives
  • Effective communication via a local project manager with quarterly check-ins
