Project Summary
The Software House was hired to build a business-listing web platform for language courses from scratch. The vendor delivered many core features and good-quality work in later scopes but the project experienced significant delays, multiple additional scopes through late 2019/early 2020, and architectural choices (use of Angular) that caused severe SEO and indexing problems.
Key Challenges
- Build the platform from scratch and have a working product within a few months
- Deliver the full set of listed features (architecture, API, dashboards, CMS, payment, search, etc.)
- Ensure SEO-friendly site architecture and indexing (avoid SPA rendering issues)
- Meet deadlines and provide stable, consistent project management across scopes

- Architecture
- API

Project Solution
The vendor was contracted to develop the client's web platform from scratch, delivering a minimalistic design and a broad feature set including architecture, API, mail engine, file upload, payment gateway, search, authentication, dashboards (user, school/teacher, business), CMS, admin and publishing features. Work was scoped across multiple phases (initial 3.5–4.5 month outcomes with additional scopes later). The site was ultimately developed using Angular, PHP and JavaScript.
Project Outcome
- The first scope was delayed by approximately 5–6 weeks and only partially delivered
- Multiple additional scopes were required, with the final phase running through Nov. 2019–Jan. 2020
- Some later scopes (2nd/3rd) achieved high-quality work under an excellent project manager
- The use of Angular caused SEO and rendering/indexing failures, preventing pages from being properly indexed and driving up remediation costs

Quality of Deliverables
“The Software House was able to provide good deliverables but were weeks delayed. They also used the wrong programming language for the project. The communication was hard due to previous errors. This review includes the vendor's response.”
