Project Summary

The Software House developed the frontend, backend, CI/CD and DevOps for the Uberchord learning platform, moving the client from an iOS-only Swift implementation to a cross-platform Unity approach and migrating the backend from Meteor to Node.js. The work included ramping up operations with Kubernetes and CI/CD; the resulting app and backend run smoothly with tens of thousands of users and relatively few bugs.

Key Challenges

  • Develop the entire learning platform from scratch including frontend, backend, CI/CD and DevOps
  • Make the app platform-independent by moving from iOS/Swift to Unity and support Android, with Mac and Windows planned
  • Migrate and massively extend the backend from Meteor to Node.js and ramp up operations

Project Deliverables

  • Cross-platform mobile application built with Unity (targeting iOS, Android, with Mac/Windows planned)
  • Backend migration from Meteor to Node.js and major backend extension
  • CI/CD pipelines and ramped-up operations (Kubernetes-based operations)
  • DevOps support and platform onboarding (Slack, Jira, Figma integration)

Project Solution

The vendor reimplemented the client to be platform-independent by adopting Unity for the client, migrated and extended the backend from Meteor to Node.js, and implemented CI/CD and operations improvements (ramping up Kubernetes and related DevOps). They assembled a team from internal and network resources to cover backend, frontend and operations responsibilities and integrated with the client's tooling (Slack, Jira, Figma).

Project Outcome

  • The mobile application and backend run smoothly with tens of thousands of users
  • A surprisingly small number of bugs occurred and issues were generally easy and fast to fix
  • Collaboration and workflow were smooth with effective onboarding into Slack, Jira and Figma

Quality of Deliverables

Thanks to The Software House team, the project is running smoothly with relatively few bugs despite hosting thousands of users. The company appreciated how the team stretched themselves in order to accommodate their changing needs especially when they needed to shuffle resources in the interim.
