Project Summary
SumatoSoft custom-built an e-commerce marketplace platform for SellBig, developing a Ruby on Rails backend and HTML5/JavaScript frontend, then later adding a custom blog. Since its 2016 launch the site has grown to support 46 stores and over 14,000 products; users report no crashes or functional defects and praise the design. Initial sales were modest but are increasing.
Key Challenges
- Needed a company to build an e-commerce platform from detailed specifications.
Project Deliverables
- E-commerce website backend (Ruby on Rails)
- Frontend implementation (HTML5, JavaScript)
- Custom blog functionality
- Live deployed website (launched Nov. 21, 2016)
Project Solution
SumatoSoft designed and implemented the website backend using Ruby on Rails and built the frontend with HTML5 and JavaScript based on the client’s visual specifications. The vendor’s project manager assembled a team and managed design previews and approvals; development proceeded after client sign-off. After the initial launch in November 2016, SumatoSoft implemented additional features including a custom blog in a subsequent phase. Communication was maintained via Skype and email with weekly meetings.
Project Outcome
- Launched on November 21, 2016.
- Platform supports 46 stores and over 14,000 products.
- No reported bugs or crashes; users compliment the design.
- Initial sales estimated between $500 and $1,000 and slowly increasing.
