Project Summary

RubyGarage designed and implemented a problem-solving architecture for a high-volume analytics API and a client-side single-page JavaScript frontend, and supported marketing assets such as landing pages. The vendor solved a major engineering challenge around ingesting hundreds of gigabytes of analytics and error-tracking data per hour and implemented the code over approximately 18 months. The client was satisfied with the engineering and project management but found the marketing/UI work weaker and noted language/time-zone barriers.

Key Challenges

  • Need for developers focused on product style and problem solving rather than just technical tasks.

Project Deliverables

  • API architecture and implementation
  • High-volume Go-based backend
  • Single-page JavaScript frontend
  • Landing pages and marketing collateral

Project Solution

RubyGarage divided the system into a Go-based, high-volume API and a client-side single-page JavaScript frontend. They proposed and implemented an architecture to efficiently fetch and process hundreds of gigabytes of analytics and error-tracking data per customer from services such as Google Analytics, Sentry, Bugsnag, Crashlytics, and Segment without excessive cost. The team implemented the agreed architecture over about a year and a half, provided backend and frontend engineering, and also produced marketing materials including landing pages and brochures. The engagement included three backend engineers, one frontend engineer, a part-time UI person, and a project manager from RubyGarage.

Project Outcome

  • Engineering solution implemented and delivered
  • Vendor provided project management and collaboration through Trello/Pivotal Tracker and GitHub
  • Team worked overtime to bridge a 10-hour time difference
  • Business ultimately ended, but engineering work was not at fault

Quality of Deliverables

The offshore development team worked overtime every week to keep in touch more efficiently and ensure timely deliverables. Although RubyGarage excelled in technical engineering, their marketing and UI skills ultimately did not meet expectations.
