Project Summary

NashTech (formerly Knoldus Inc.) provided Scala and Akka developers and engineering practices to a public safety software company (Carbyne). The engagement focuses on building microservices, IoT communications over legacy interfaces, and an API surface to deliver mobile device data (location, video, images, drone data) to call-taker desktop applications. The ongoing engagement began in May 2018 and, to date, results have met internal expectations with strong team integration and adherence to best practices.

Key Challenges

  • Scale the organization cost-effectively and agilely using Scala and Akka.
  • Lack of in-house expertise in Scala and Akka; need a skilled partner in these technologies.

Project Deliverables

  • Microservices
  • IoT communication interfaces (legacy serial integration)
  • APIs (menu for services and desktop application)
  • Desktop application integration for call takers
  • Media delivery features (snapshots, images, transcriptions)

Project Solution

Knoldus (NashTech) supplied developers fluent in Scala and Akka and applied software engineering best practices to help build the client’s emergency communications platform. The vendor assisted with microservices development, IoT-based communications (including integration over legacy serial interfaces), cloud development, and the API surface both for backend services and the desktop application. The team enabled delivery of mobile-device data—location, images, video and drone data—to the client's system and implemented features to deliver snapshots, images, and transcriptions to end users. They worked as distributed members of the client's teams and provided replacements when attrition occurred.

Project Outcome

  • The team achieves roughly 90% of sprint scope.
  • Strong integration with internal teams and adherence to engineering best practices, enabling efficient progress and management.
