Project Summary

Mindbox provided RPA-focused custom software development for a Danone (Nutricia) factory in Opole, designing and implementing robotizations from a prioritized pool of 40 processes. They developed and deployed multiple UiPath robots that integrate with SAP and other systems, automating ten processes to date. These automations save the factory at least 30 hours of human labor per day and have optimized transport management and production planning.

Key Challenges

  • Launch a digital transformation initiative to create innovative technological processes and improve business processes and product quality.
  • Migrate from Blue Prism to UiPath to exploit broader RPA potential and enable business users to build robots.
  • Design and implement robotizations from a prioritized pool of 40 processes and achieve measurable ROI from automation.
  • Integrate data from multiple systems (SAP, MES) and replace informal, employee-based information exchange with systemized automation.

Project Deliverables

  • UiPath-based software robots (C-3PO, Wall-E, Hiro, etc.)
  • Integration with SAP for shipping documents and production-plan updates
  • Python scripts and image-recognition verification tool
  • Automation of ten processes and ongoing robot development (11th in testing)

Project Solution

Mindbox was selected to support the migration to and development on the UiPath platform, initially maintaining the orchestrator server and environments and then designing and building software robots. They developed multiple UiPath robots that collect and standardize data across systems, generate PDFs, interact with SAP and the Manufacturing Execution System, and automate production-plan updates. Solutions combined UiPath automation with Python scripts and image-recognition tools; Mindbox also provided ongoing improvement, testing, and knowledge transfer enabling employees to create their own automations.

Project Outcome

  • Automation processes save at least 30 hours of human labor each day.
  • Increased precision in selected processes and optimized transport management resulting in additional time savings.
  • Solutions based on the Hiro concept are being used in other DANONE factories.
  • Employees trained by Mindbox now create automations themselves and the plant has an Automation Club.
