Project Summary

An industrial products distributor (Würth MRO, Safety, & Metalworking) hired evozon to augment development staff, rewrite acquired code and develop an e-commerce platform. Evozon built features, integrated systems (search engine and SAP backend), performed QA and responsive design, and provided post-GoLive support. The team delivered on schedule, communicated effectively, and continued supporting the platform after launch.

Key Challenges

  • Temporarily increase development staff to meet multiple project needs
  • Unable to find suitable local candidates in the client’s area
  • Rewrite and integrate acquired company's code into the existing ecommerce platform
  • Meet a fixed GoLive date and provide post-GoLive support
  • Provide staff augmentation and cross-training alongside the in-house team

Project Deliverables

  • E-commerce platform base technology
  • Third-party search integration
  • Cart and checkout system
  • Tax and shipping calculators
  • SAP backend order-processing integration
  • Responsive mobile design
  • Comprehensive QA test suites and testing
  • Rewritten acquired-company code integrated into existing ecommerce platform
  • Post-GoLive support

Project Solution

We reached out to Evozon after working with another offshore development company that wasn’t a good fit for us. We wanted a company that could better understand our way of thinking and values. The most compelling factor was that they aligned strongly with our technology needs. Since we're a .NET shop, it was helpful that they had an entire .NET department, but we also knew that Evozon had a broad range of skills. They understood technological nuances in a way we simply did not. They had high ratings, a great culture fit, and good value for cost. For the first project, we had 20 Evozon employees split across multiple projects during the height of our partnership. This included a project manager and six developers assigned to the e-commerce project. For the second project, we worked with 6-10 employees. They augmented our existing development staff and guided our decision-making process to ensure we incorporated the most effective technologies. We first gave them a project to complete on their own and then incorporated them into our direct team. One project of note was the creation of our e-commerce platform. They helped develop the entire base technology while working alongside our in-house designers. They integrated the site with a third-party search engine, built the cart and checkout system, added tax and shipping calculators, and ensured orders were processed by our SAP backend system. They also ran comprehensive QA tests of our website and provided responsive mobile design. Our company also acquired an existing company that had some unique intellectual property within our common ecommerce space. We needed to rewrite that code and integrate it into our existing ecommerce platform. The scope was very large and required a new development team, testers and business system analysts. GoLive was a fixed date, and additional post-GoLive support was required.

Project Outcome

  • Increase in sales following the initial project (no specific metrics provided)
  • Reliable and consistent website performance
  • New features delivered every two-week sprint with live demos and a test system
  • GoLive was met with few errors and additional after-hours support was provided
  • Deliverables were completed on schedule with effective communication
