Project Summary

Spiral Scout rebuilt an end-to-end digital asset management (DAM) system for an IT firm, replacing and migrating a legacy solution and delivering a customer-facing web portal, image editing tools, and integrations. The vendor provided requirements gathering, UX/UI design, development (JavaScript, PHP, Go), QA, DevOps deployment to AWS, SEO work, and documentation. The new system produced improved website performance, higher organic traffic and signups, and significantly reduced hosting costs. Spiral Scout continues to support and iterate on the platform with the client.

Key Challenges

  • Lacked internal bandwidth to build and maintain a DAM system
  • Needed an urgent update to a legacy DAM to support a busy season
  • Required a complete rebuild and migration of data to a new DAM solution

Project Deliverables

  • Customer-facing website
  • Subscription service for downloading images
  • Stripe and Mailchimp integrations
  • Backend dashboard for user and file management and reporting
  • Collaborative image editing and captioning tool
  • SEO recommendations and implementation
  • Documentation on how to use the software
  • Partial refactor and rewrite of legacy codebase
  • Deployment to AWS

Project Solution

Spiral Scout defined technical specifications and user stories through business analysis, produced high-fidelity UX/UI mockups and wireframes, and implemented the full software stack using JavaScript, PHP, and Go. They refactored and rewrote portions of the legacy codebase, built a customer-facing website, subscription/download service, backend admin dashboard, collaborative image editing and captioning tool, and integrated Stripe and Mailchimp. The team handled internal QA and DevOps to deploy the system on the client’s AWS servers and delivered SEO recommendations and user documentation.

Project Outcome

  • Increased customer revenue and website signups
  • Reduced AWS costs from $3,500/month to $800/month
  • Dramatically improved website performance and increased organic search traffic
  • Continued ongoing collaboration with Spiral Scout
