Project Summary

SENLA built a 3D foot-modeling system and accompanying iOS app for a Palo Alto startup developing computer-vision virtual fitting technology. They implemented server-side processing to generate 3D models from 360-degree image captures, developed a Java backend on AWS, and delivered an Objective-C iPhone app with low-level camera and motion integration. The product worked reliably and generated positive interest from shoe companies, though public release was pending.

Key Challenges

  • Lacked in-house iOS and backend development expertise
  • Needed integration of low-level camera, motion, and server communications for 3D capture
  • Required backend processing capable of producing 3D models and running on AWS

Project Deliverables

  • 360-degree foot capture system
  • Backend services (Java) deployed on AWS
  • iOS app (Objective-C) with low-level camera and motion integration
  • Design and UI for the iOS app

Project Solution

Built a system to capture a 360-degree view of a user's foot, teach the user how to record and send images, and develop server-side processing to produce a 3D model for visualization. Implemented the backend in Java to run on AWS and developed the iPhone app in Objective-C with low-level camera and motion integration and integrated server communications. SENLA also provided UI/design work and iterated on mockups and suggested improvements.

Project Outcome

  • Product functions reliably
  • App planned for public release within three months (at time of review)
  • Positive interest from shoe companies and favorable UI feedback
  • Clean, well-architected code noted by subsequent developers

Quality of Deliverables

Although the system and app haven't been released to the public yet, the shoe companies the client is potentially going to work with have been happy with the interface. They were happy that the code was clean and written well. The agency was able to remain agile over the course of the project and add resources if necessary.
