Project Summary

A gas cylinder manufacturer engaged Rubius to replace spreadsheet-based tracking with a tailored warehouse management and cylinder-tracking system. Rubius delivered a two-stage solution consisting of labeling, a web service, and a mobile app using C#, .NET Core, Xamarin, Angular, Docker and Yandex.Cloud. The system reduced routine operations and operational costs from tracking losses and confusion, and early customers adopted the product. The vendor provided frequent progress updates and hands-on project management.

Key Challenges

  • Reliance on Excel spreadsheets for tracking
  • Warehouse confusion resulting in lost cylinders and replacements by partners
  • Inability to plan inspections and optimize the cylinder fleet
  • Extra operational costs from tracking inefficiencies

Project Deliverables

  • Labeling system
  • Web service
  • Mobile application
  • Product website
  • NFC tagging option

Project Solution

Rubius executed the project in two stages: the first stage (about a year) produced a finished product and the second was iterative to refine the service. They delivered a system composed of labeling, a web service, and a mobile application, and later added an NFC tagging option after field experience. Rubius also produced a product website and supported marketing preparations. Technologies used included C#, .NET Core, Xamarin, Angular, Docker and Yandex.Cloud. The vendor staffed the project with mobile, front-end and back-end developers plus designer, analyst, project manager and QA, and implemented the solution in the client's warehouse before refining it for broader testing.

Project Outcome

  • Reduced routine operations and operational costs caused by losses and confusion.
  • Attracted initial customers who continue to use the system.
