Project Summary

Quartsoft used Drupal to build and customize a multi-iteration website for a Ukrainian academic journal, implementing advanced categorization (author, history, theme) and online book sales. The project launched its first Ukrainian iteration in 2013 and additional thematic and English sites followed, helping the journal grow its audience. Communication and professionalism distinguished Quartsoft from prior providers.

Key Challenges

  • Replace a failed server and relaunch the journal site after a 2007 crash
  • Prior developers failed to deliver acceptable results

Project Deliverables

  • Custom Drupal website with article categorization
  • Multiple site iterations (Ukrainian and English, plus thematic sites)
  • Online storefront to showcase and sell published books

Project Solution

Quartsoft customized a Drupal-based website to support the journal’s publishing needs, building content categorization by author, historical events, time periods, themes and other taxonomies. They delivered multiple iterations of the site (including Ukrainian and later English/thematic sites) and added functionality to showcase and sell published books online. The vendor collaborated with the client via Basecamp and Skype during development.

Project Outcome

  • Unique monthly visitors increased from about 30,000 to 70,000–130,000
  • Facebook engagement around 3,000
  • More online subscribers than physical journal purchasers; stronger audience growth

Quality of Deliverables

The website has helped build an audience in an especially challenging market, increasing unique monthly visitors from 30,000 to upwards of 70,000 and garnering more online subscribers. Communication and professionalism distinguished Quartsoft from two previous developers who failed to deliver.
