Project Summary

Moravio assisted a project-management-software client in migrating from REST to a GraphQL API by designing and implementing an Erlang Phoenix GraphQL server and adapting the React frontend. They supplied backend and frontend developers, used agile project management (Jira) and Slack for communication, and helped the client launch the project earlier than planned.

Key Challenges

  • The existing REST API resulted in many read requests and front-end data consistency challenges.
  • The client needed increased capacity and expertise to design and implement a GraphQL-based solution.

Project Deliverables

  • Erlang Phoenix GraphQL API (server)
  • Architecture design and implementation for GraphQL migration
  • Adapted React frontend to consume the new GraphQL API
  • Two developer resources (1 backend, 1 frontend)

Project Solution

Moravio designed the architecture and implemented an Erlang Phoenix server exposing a GraphQL API to replace the previous REST approach. They implemented the server-side GraphQL endpoints, coordinated the architecture and then adapted the React frontend to consume the new API. The vendor supplied one backend and one frontend developer to work with the client CTO and managed delivery through agile practices.

Project Outcome

  • The project launched faster than expected.
  • The migration to GraphQL was completed and considered a strategic milestone for the client, improving frontend data consistency and capacity.
