Project Summary

KODE designed and developed the frontend MVP for a Latvian bank’s mobile banking app on iOS and Android, producing synchronized functionality across both platforms. The client developed the backend internally; the MVP launched in June 2017 and achieved roughly 10% user adoption (majority Android). The team continues to work on a second release with expanded features and marketing support planned.

Key Challenges

  • Need to develop a native mobile app for clients in addition to existing web/mobile interfaces
  • Required integration with existing authentication (DIGIPASS)
  • Limited MVP functionality and no active marketing led to low initial adoption
  • Resource allocation and synchronization issues between frontend and backend development

Project Deliverables

  • Project plan and application design
  • iOS mobile application (MVP frontend)
  • Android mobile application (MVP frontend)
  • Synchronized functionality across iOS and Android

Project Solution

KODE created a project plan and designed the application based on the client’s business and design goals, then developed the iOS and Android frontends simultaneously (Android completed slightly sooner). They ensured feature parity across both platforms and integrated the app to use the same DIGIPASS authentication as the web platform. The client’s backend was developed internally. Collaboration was managed via Redmine with the client using JIRA, and daily coordination occurred between the client project manager and KODE’s coordinator.

Project Outcome

  • MVP was successful and prompted development of a new version
  • App adoption around 10% of clients, with 60–70% of users on Android
  • Client expressed satisfaction with KODE’s quality and collaboration despite some resource allocation issues

Quality of Deliverables

The engagement was successful, resulting in 10% user adoption and plans for a second release. Marketing is expected to lead to full user adoption. While KODE encountered a few resource allocation hiccups, the team brings strong skills, valuable collaboration, and quality deliverables to the table.
