Project Summary

itCraft partnered with the client to extend and support an internal Android team and to develop a greenfield iOS app for the HiHi handset system. They ran remote pre-engineering workshops, produced full project documentation and a JIRA backlog, and provided a cross-functional team (developers, QA, DevOps, UX/UI and PM). The delivered iOS and updated Android apps met expectations, reduced user support needs, and achieved a 4+ App Store rating for iOS.

Key Challenges

  • Extend and support the internal Android team using the existing code base.
  • Develop a new iOS application from scratch (greenfield).
  • Align external development processes with the client's internal sprint planning and stakeholder consultation.

Project Deliverables

  • Brand-new iOS mobile application (greenfield)
  • Updated Android application with new design and features
  • Project documentation and JIRA backlog
  • Pre-engineering workshops and DevOps support

Project Solution

itCraft conducted pre-engineering workshops (remotely due to COVID), turned client user stories into full project documentation, and created a JIRA backlog to run agile sprints jointly with the client's internal team. They supplied two Android developers to support the internal team, two iOS developers to build the greenfield iOS app, plus a QA engineer, Project Manager, DevOps engineer, UX/UI consultant and an iOS TechLead. The vendor managed sprints and coordinated with the senior product owner to deliver the mobile apps and supporting DevOps and UX work.

Project Outcome

  • Brand-new iOS app published to the App Store with a 4+ rating.
  • Updated Android app released with new design and features and reduced user support requirements.
  • Consistent cross-platform products meeting client expectations and improved operational support.

Quality of Deliverables

itCraft has met the client's expectations. Their new Android versions have measured against their legacy app, as well. The client was also able to plan with the entire external team to confirm the scope of each sprint. Overall, their quality and speed were impressive.
