Project Summary

Intuz developed a mobile-first MVP for a digital gift-giving app, building an iOS prototype and an Android version while integrating iTunes and Amazon product feeds. Apple ultimately rejected the app's business model, prompting a pivot to focus on Android. The vendor provided structured project management (Active Collab, Skype) and affordable, proactive development support during the March–July 2017 engagement.

Key Challenges

  • Enter into the mobile space with native iOS and Android apps rather than a web-based solution
  • Apple rejected the app's business model, blocking the iOS launch
  • iTunes API bugs prevented direct gifting flows and reliable purchase verification
  • Complex and cumbersome Amazon product feeds made search and data management difficult

Project Deliverables

  • Fully working iOS MVP
  • Android app (awaiting launch) with added content and functionality
  • Workaround popup verification flow for purchase confirmation
  • Integration with iTunes/Amazon search APIs and gifting functions
  • Amazon product feed integration and product-search handling

Project Solution

Intuz developed a mobile-first MVP: a fully working iOS prototype and an Android version under preparation. Work included integrating iTunes and Amazon search and gifting APIs, implementing product-feed handling for Amazon, and building a purchase-verification workaround (a confirmation popup) when API callbacks were unavailable. The team assisted with architecture and AWS-based hosting setup and used Active Collab and Skype for project management and communication.

Project Outcome

  • Pivoted away from Apple after the App Store rejected the business model
  • Beta testing (mostly iOS) showed positive reception but Android limitations reduced the user funnel
  • Project work completed in July 2017 with Android near launch following final tuning
  • Project management and communication were well-organized using Active Collab, Skype, and Dropbox
  • Delivered work within a roughly $30,000 total spend and provided cost-competitive updates

Quality of Deliverables

Proactive communication and dedication to resolving various obstacles help offset the technical challenges of the project. The detailed approach to development cycles provided clarity and better cost controls in what would otherwise be an open-ended project.
