Project Summary

A nonprofit (GSMA) hired Fingent to develop a biometrics iOS and Android app to demonstrate mobile biometric verification for operators, focusing on voice, face, and fingerprint authentication. The app was developed between November 2020 and June 2021 and achieved its goal of attracting interest from mobile network operators; the client praised the app's UI/UX and Fingent's responsiveness and project management.

Key Challenges

  • Demonstrate biometric verification in low-tech environments and feature phones.
  • Implement voice, face, and fingerprint authentication that works with low camera resolution and limited-device capabilities.
  • Compensate for limited in-house development resources to build a full application.

Project Deliverables

  • Biometric iOS app
  • Biometric Android app
  • Voice verification feature
  • Face recognition feature
  • Fingerprint recognition feature
  • App store submission and approval support

Project Solution

Fingent developed a mobile biometrics application showcasing voice, face, and fingerprint verification for iOS and Android. The vendor led development (one person was responsible for the iOS and Android development) with a total team of about 12–13 people, ran weekly sprints and used a platform to track each stage of work, and supported app store submission and approval. The project formally ended in March 2021 but required additional time for app store approval, which was completed before closing the engagement.

Project Outcome

  • Achieved the goal of attracting interest from mobile network operators and mobile money providers.
  • Positive UI/UX feedback with no reported issues after launch.
  • Multiple inquiries and meetings requested following release.
  • Tasks were completed on time with organized sprint processes and responsive communication.
