Project Summary

TAGALONG partnered with FarShore to strip down and rebuild its V1 iOS mobile app into a new 2.0 version to repair broken features and add missing functionality. The vendor assessed the existing codebase, implemented wireframes and UI/UX designs, and delivered an iOS-only app with backend development. The final product met the client's feature and design demands, though some usability issues and bugs remained and the project took about twice the initially projected time.

Key Challenges

  • Rebuild the V1 iOS app into a functional 2.0 version
  • Repair broken features and add missing functionality
  • Deliver a simple, functioning application suitable for App Store launch
  • Scope and communication assumptions led to back-and-forths and timeline delays

Project Deliverables

  • iOS mobile application (v2.0)
  • Backend services
  • Implemented wireframes and UX/UI design

Project Solution

FarShore was selected after meetings comparing several vendors and because of its U.S. primary location, vision, and pricing. The vendor received access to the original codebase, assessed salvageable components, and implemented the client's wireframes and scope of work. The team rebuilt the iOS-only application (written in Swift and a Node.js-based backend), delivered application and backend development, and managed the project across a small core team plus fluctuating additional developers.

Project Outcome

  • The product met the client's new feature, design, and versatility demands
  • No objective performance data available to quantify impact
  • The app had flaws and bugs that were gradually addressed
  • The project duration expanded to roughly double the initial estimate

Quality of Deliverables

While the company has yet to collect any measurable data regarding the new app, they can say that the final product met their demands on feature design and versatility. Though the project lasted double what was initially projected, the company had a good working relationship with the team.
