Project Summary

Five built an iOS mobile app for Envision Experience to connect students attending academic summer camps, providing scheduling, speaker information, student profiles and a pre-program checklist. The project began with an MVP pilot and moved through iterative design sprints to a first-generation full launch; the client praised Five's project management, timeline discipline, and value. The client serves roughly 25,000–26,000 students each summer and is continuing to iterate and expand the app.

Key Challenges

  • No existing mobile app and the organization was behind the times
  • Need to serve a mobile population of roughly 25,000–26,000 students each summer
  • Requirement for a combined utility and engagement experience (schedules, speakers, peer connections, and checklist)

Project Deliverables

  • iOS mobile app (MVP and full first-generation)
  • Schedule and program listing feature
  • Speaker bios and extended information
  • Student profiles with social integration
  • Pre-program checklist
  • Iterative design sprints and product updates

Project Solution

Five engaged in January and took an iterative approach, launching an MVP in May that was piloted with a smaller group of students. The MVP included program schedules, speaker lists, student listings and a pre-program checklist. After gathering feedback, Five ran additional design sprints to add deeper social integration and student profiles, expanded speaker information, and fully launched a first-generation app at the end of July. The team continues to iterate on the app and plans to port it to Android and add personal assessments and customer-acquisition features in a February/March release.

Project Outcome

  • Achieved a 4.5-star App Store rating for the MVP
  • Reached ~900 daily active users during the summer pilot
  • Positive user and parent feedback about schedule, profiles, and checklist usability
  • Observed a 4–5 point improvement in MPS scores across programs (attributed in part to the app)
