Project Summary

Divelement Web Services developed additional features for an educational web app to help it reach MVP, including a drag-and-drop editor feature, a flashcard ordering algorithm, token handling, and Stripe checkout integration. The vendor delivered the client's most-requested beta feature, managed the work with a three-person team, and coordinated via weekly meetings, Slack, and Jira; the app had not launched at the time of the review.

Key Challenges

  • The app needed work to become a true minimally viable product
  • The client required additional features in the core app and improvements to supporting services (including checkout)
  • The team needed someone experienced at improving an existing, complicated code base

Project Deliverables

  • To implement a drag-and-drop feature in a text editor
  • To implement a custom algorithm that displays flashcards to students in a certain order
  • To implement proper handling for expired web tokens
  • To complete integration for Stripe checkout

Project Solution

The vendor reviewed the existing React codebase, scoped four deliverables (drag-and-drop text editor feature, flashcard ordering algorithm, expired web token handling, and Stripe checkout integration), produced timelines and milestones, and executed the work. Divelement assigned a full-time junior developer with a senior developer providing guidance and code reviews, and a project manager coordinated the effort through weekly meetings, Slack, and Jira.

Project Outcome

  • One completed feature was the most-requested feature among the client's beta testers
  • The project was completed despite personnel changes; nothing was dropped
  • Project communication and tracking were handled via weekly Google Hangouts, Slack, and Jira

Quality of Deliverables

Although the project is still in development, Divelement Web Services had come up with the client's most-requested feature for their beta testers. They have also shown the ability to improve their complicated, existing code base.
