Project Summary

99x (formerly Nextly) provides ongoing front- and backend engineering resources to Spotfund, a New York–based crowdfunding platform. The vendor supplies three engineers (two React frontend developers and one Python/Django backend developer) who participate in sprints, onboard via knowledge transfer, and contribute production code. The client praises the team’s code quality, velocity, communication, and cost-effectiveness compared with U.S.-based hires.

Key Challenges

  • Need for additional React-based development resources to address backlog
  • Rapid replacement of a senior backend developer who provided one-month notice
  • Onboarding to a complex, full-service fintech backend with end-to-end workflows
  • Maintaining sprint velocity while integrating outsourced engineers

Project Deliverables

  • Frontend development resources (React)
  • Backend development resources (Python/Django)
  • Code contributions and feature implementation
  • Sprint participation and ongoing engineering support

Project Solution

99x provided dedicated engineering resources to augment the client’s existing team. The engagement began with interviews via Google Meet and rapid placement of a React frontend engineer within 24–48 hours. The vendor’s engineers completed knowledge transfer and code reviews, were onboarded to the platform, deployment and testing processes, and started with small tasks that ramped up over time. A second frontend engineer was added, and later a Python/Django backend engineer was brought in after the client’s senior backend developer gave notice. The resources participate in weekly sprint planning, produce code, and integrate into the client’s workflows; the backend resource now leads backend development efforts.

Project Outcome

  • High code quality and strong engineering velocity
  • Significant cost savings versus U.S.-based hires (about half the cost)
  • Long-term retention with at least one resource on the team for ~1.5 years
  • Resources are self-sufficient, communicative, and integrated into sprints
